Just for Pets supports the Guide Dog UK sponsorship scheme and is proud to have sponsored three puppies through their guide dog training. Not all puppies make it to the end of their training as not every puppy is cut out to be a guide dog.
GUIDE DOG WEEK : 4th – 12th OCTOBER 2014 – join Just for Pets and Stand out for Guide Dogs with wacky, colourful fun in all our stores while we raise money to support this charity.
Did you know ?
It takes 20 months of training, seven years of support – and costs around £50,000 to train a guide dog. Just for Pets and our customers raise £5000 per puppy to fund their initial training.
Only 75% of trainee guide dogs meet the societies high standards to qualify to become guide dogs.
Unsuccessful puppies are assessed for suitability for other approved assistance dog organisations, offered to their puppy walkers or are rehomed to members of the public.
Sadly every hour, another person in the UK goes blind, which means we need to train more guide dog puppies
The Just for Pets Puppies
Our first puppy Bentley unfortunately didn’t make the grade due to health reasons but he was rehomed very quickly as understandably there is great demand for these inteligent and gentle dogs.
Jenny & John were sponsored together as our stores had a mammoth fundraising push both are doing well with their training and we will be regularly updating as to their progress.
Jenny is very nearly ready to go to training school.
John is our latest guide dog puppy to head off to training school, how he has grown !
we are nearing the target for our 4th & 5th puppy so look out for the guide dog collection dog in a store near you and help us to help them !
