sports hound - french bulldog with stuffed football sitting on couch

In case you hadn’t noticed we have a world cup event taking place in England at the moment. It’s at times like these large swathes of the country go sporting mad. People paint their faces, wave flags and sing bawdy songs in public that would turn their cheeks red with shame at any other time!

Sporting prowess is not just the preserve of us humans though. Oh no. There have been some fine examples of animals getting in on the act, and not just through the obvious means of being a racing horse or greyhound.

We thought this would be a great time to celebrate some of the more entertaining instances of animals getting into sport – whether they meant to or not… After all, who doesn’t love to see our furry and not-so-furry friends living it up? And some of these are better than some of their human equivalents!

Of course, sometimes they’re not actually supposed to be participating, as these fine examples demonstrate.

Sometimes an improvement?

There are instances some people might say a bit of animal intrusion actually brightens up a sporting day – though of course we wouldn’t say that to a golfer’s face…

It might be worth keeping a keen eye open for any animal antics during this Rugby World Cup. You never know when they’re going to try to get in on the act.

When it comes to your own pets, there’s no need to let them loose during a major sporting event for them to get their entertainment and exercise – we’ve got plenty of options to get them moving (for dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, gerbils and mice, and more) for their entertainment and yours.
