Say hello to Sarah! She’s the latest puppy to join the army of Guide Dogs for the Blind that have been sponsored thanks to the kind generosity of Just for Pets customers.
We have now raised £35,000 for the Guide Dogs charity and Sarah joins Bentley, Jenny, John, Jeanette, Tara and Holly who have all been named and supported through the first year of their life.
Each year it cost Guide Dogs around £48 million to provide the guide dog service and other mobility services. Over the years the charity has trained and partnered more than 30,000 guide dogs which have transformed the lives of people with sight loss.
It’s a startling statistic that every hour another person in the UK goes blind. A guide dog means that when someone loses their sight, they don’t lose their freedom as well.
Guide Dog Week coming up
The lifetime cost of a guide dog is around £50,000 and our £5,000 donation per dog funds them through that important first year of their life.
So thanks to our customers for their kind donations and to our staff who have gone beyond the call of duty to raise money in different ways from leg waxes to cake sales and raffles.
We’ll be doing it all again later this year (Guide Dog week is October 1-9) so keep an eye out of lots of fun activities that will be taking place in store to raise money towards Guide Dog number eight!
